T-Max® 3W/G2™ controlling another timer (master-slave) Wired

This section is to aid in troubleshooting problems you may be experiencing using a T-Max® 3W/G2™ timer in a “master-slave” configuration; meaning a “master” 3W/G2™ is controlling a “slave” timer in the room (either another 3W/G2™ or a T-Max® Certified timer in the tanning bed). Scroll down until you find the problem you are experiencing.

The T-Max® 3W/G2™ outside the tanning room counts down but the timer in the room does nothing

The 3W/G2™ at the front desk must be set to address 0 and the timer in the room (whether it is a 3W/G2™ or T-Max® Certified timer in the tanning unit) must be set to address 1. Refer to the 3W/G2™ user’s guide.

The T-Max® 3W/G2™ shows a number other than 0, is beeping and will not do anything when I press the buttons

  1. Make sure the timer in the room is set to address 1. (Refer to your user manual)
  2. Check the modular cable connection between the 3W/G2™ and the tanning bed. Make sure the cable is connected to the middle port on the back of the 3W/G2™. If the timer in the tanning bed has three modular (phone type) ports, make sure the cable is in the middle port. If your tanning beds were manufactured by ETS, make sure the bypass plug that came with the tanning bed is not installed in any of the communication ports.
  3. If the modular cable was modified or not provided by Applied Digital, Inc., replace the cable.
  4. If you are using a coupler to connect two modular cables together, run a single T-Max® cable. The coupler may need to be replaced.
  5. Both the master 3W/G2™ and the timer in the tanning room (whether it is a 3W/G2™ or T-Max® Certified timer in the tanning unit) have a communications chip that allows for communication. This chip may need to be replaced in either the master 3W/G2™, or the timer in the tanning room, or both. Contact your dealer for this chip.

The T-Max® 3W/G2™ outside the room is controlling the T-Max® timer in the room but the tanning unit will not turn on

If the timer in the room is installed in the tanning unit: contact the tanning unit manufacturer.

If the timer in the room is a 3W/G2:

  1. Check the circuit breaker for the tanning unit and make sure the tanning unit is getting power.
  2. Make sure the two wires from the tanning unit are connected to the “J3-Contact” screw terminals on the back of the 3W/G2™ in the room.
  3. Refer to the tanning unit manual to ensure the correct two wires are connected to the “J3-Contact” screw terminals on the back of the 3W/G2™ in the room.
  4. Disconnect the two wires from the “J3-Contact” screw terminals. Holding the insulated part of the wires, touch the two bare wire ends together. If the tanning bed energizes, the 3W/G2™ needs servicing or replacement. If the tanning bed does not energize, then the tanning unit has a problem.

Safety note: There may be as much as 270V on these two wires. Make sure that the person performing this test only holds the insulated part of the wires. If you or your maintenance person is not comfortable performing this test, contact licensed electrician or a certified tanning bed technician!

After the session ends, the 3W/G2™ display shows two dots

This is the clean room indication, signalling the room has been used and needs to be cleaned before the next client enters. If the timer in the room is a 3W/G2™, press and hold the Up button on the 3W/G2™ in the room until the display reads 0. If the timer in the room is a T-Max® Certified tanning bed timer in the bed, refer to the tanning unit’s user guide regarding the clean room indication.

The 3W/G2™ will return to the ready state once the clean room indicator has been cleared in the room.
